A Weekend in Photos

Judging by the weather we've been experiencing here in Queensland, you'd be hard-pressed to imagine it's actually the middle of winter.  This past weekend has been absolutely gorgeous - sunny days and endless blue skies, with not a cloud in sight.  While the mornings start off a little brisk, come late morning it's time to start shedding layers as the day warms up.  By lunchtime, temperatures are around 26C, prompting some who are brave enough to take a quick swim in the chilly ocean surf.  As the afternoon comes to a close, the temperature begins to drop off quickly and its time to rug-up and venture indoors.  Most nights you'll find me at home in my PJ's warming up in front of the fire, as the temperature drops to single digits where I live.

Friday was our wedding anniversary so my husband and I decided to take the day off work and spend it together.  We started off the morning driving down the coast to Coolangatta, where we called in to a local café opposite the beach for some morning tea.  Afterwards, we went for a drive along the ocean road to do some sightseeing, and since the surf looked so inviting we pulled the car over and took a walk along the sand.

After spending a few hours relaxing, watching the waves break along the shore, we hopped back into the car and drove a little further north, stopping in for lunch at a beachside restaurant in Burleigh Heads.  We sat on their rooftop deck, overlooking the ocean, and feasted on warm olives, arancini, and gourmet wood-fired pizza.

I would have been content to spend the rest of the day drinking wine on the deck while enjoying the view, but eventually it was time to head home and get the fire on before the temperature started to drop.  As much as I complain about the humidity in Summer, I adore our Queensland winters, they are absolutely perfect!
